Christ Church Stockport
We are chuffed to bits to be able to tell you that, following an extensive 36 hour assessment process which involved an examination of both our life and doctrine, as well as a more informal critique of our fashion sense, Matt and Jon have been accepted as AMiE Church Planters.
We are delighted to partner with them firstly, because our doctrine is decidedly Anglican and secondly, because they offer us wider church connection, appropriate oversight and “a band of brothers” with whom we can learn from and serve with.
In other news...
The core team continues to meet each week to get to know each other, plan and pray. Over the summer we are taking some walking tours around Stockport town centre as well as organising a handful of social events to help us connect with one another’s friends and networks. Please pray for these times together. They are vitally important as we set out together to “grow up in every way into him who is the head” (Eph 4:15) Pray that we would grow in love toward each other, pray hard and plan well.
In the coming week...
Matt will be meeting with the Bishop of Stockport. Depsite contact with others in the CofE, this is the first time we have had any contact with Bishop Libby. CCS likely holds to a different theological position to Libby, but the hope is that we might be united around the need for gospel energy to be poured into Stockport and as such we maybe able to work together toward that end.
Our prayer is that we wouldn’t be seen as a threat to ministry in Stockport but a partner in reaching the town with the saving gospel of Jesus. Please pray that we would “with all humility and gentleness, (and) with patience, bear with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Eph 4:2-3)
Our partnership and affiliation with AMiE means we can now crack on with the massively important tasks of trust development and fund raising. We are pleased to announce that three external trustees have joined our team. They are Pete Jackson, Catriona Senior and Sam Ward. We’ll send out another email introducing them soon. We are delighted that they have joined us and look forward to working with them all into the future.
Please pray for our trustees: pray that we would work well together in the role of governing CCS. Pray too that as we send off our registration documents to the Charities Commission they would pass the relevant scrutiny and that we can form our legal structures.
Finally, we covet your prayers for funding. It turns out church planting is an expensive endeavour! As we seek to fundraise over the next months (and years) please pray that we would find generous individuals and organisations who are keen to partner with us to see the gospel flourish in Stockport.
There are a number of ways you can support Christ Church Stockport.
- Pray. We covet your prayers for Stockport and CCS. Please consider frequently partnering us in this way.
- Give. As you have no doubt concluded, this is an ambitious and financially demanding project. Would you be willing to give financially to CCS either through a one off gift or through setting up regular payments?
- Join. We are looking for people to join with us in planting. If you are committed to the Lord Jesus Christ, committed to mission, committed to Christ’s church and can commit to Stockport on a medium to long term basis we would love to hear from you.
- Send.If you are a Church Leader, do you have members of your church whom you could encourage and release to join us in planting?
